Openings and Closures Around Town: A November Restaurant Roundup

Short Order

In an often frantic attempt to track the many openings and closings around town, we scribble notes while driving down Santa Monica Boulevard, eavesdrop while in line at the movies, get tips from colleagues and friends, and troll the Web for restaurant obits and births. And sometimes we come across gems like Meshuga 4 Sushi on La Brea, hoping it will add some decent kosher sushi to the community (we're not holding our breath).

After barely surviving its one-year anniversary, Swill Automatic was shut down by the heatlh department. A note on their still-active website says they are "closed indefinitely, due to a recent determination by the LA Health Department that the ventilation in our tiny but efficient little kitchen is not compliant under existing guidelines."

While we wait for the arrival of Wolf in Sheep's Clothing on Abbot Kinney in Venice, led by chefs Kris Tominaga (Joe's) and Brian Dunsmoor (Axe), former "Next Iron Chef" contestant and L.A. chef Andrew Kirschner's Tar & Roses and Red Hill in Echo park, here is this month's list of openings and closures:
