Anthony Bourdain's The Layover Uses Jonathan Gold as a Guide

The Travel Channel obviously saved the best for last.

The season finale of Anthony Bourdain's The Layover airs tonight, in which Tony will enlighten viewers on how to get the most out of the L.A. food scene in a short period of time. Between cocktails at the Chateau Marmont and, we think, a peek into Jumbo's Clown Room, of course.

Bourdain pays visits to the Hollywood Farmers Market, Tacos Villa Corona, the LudoBites truck and Koreatown -- the latter two in part due to the guidance of our celebrated in-house food critic Jonathan Gold.

During a conference call last year, Bourdain told us of planning this episode: "I have to say Jonathan [Gold] made it a lot easier just by doing what he does in highlighting the kinds of places that he's been highlighting over the years. So Koreatown was a major focus, and food trucks."

Bourdain becomes intrigued with the Koreatown nightclub scene, in which copious amounts of food and drink proceed romantic encounters, leaving Tony with performance anxiety. The Travel Channel is apparently wary of allowing their videos to be embedded, but a sneak peek of Tony's take on the nightlife-heavy neighborhood can be seen here.

Tonight's full episode of The Layover airs tonight at 9 p.m.

It was enjoyable, somewhat predictable with some fun twists. However I'm disappointed that he slammed LA's public transport as being completely unviable. I know it suffers by comparison to most major metros, but it's gotten so much better. Happy to see the shut-out to Varnish though.

A small point: Senor Bourdain scarcely needs my guidance in Los Angeles. I did once send him to Oki Dog, after all.

Too bad he wasted time on In-N-Out.  Philippe's is fine but already covered by tons of food shows so that was a letdown.  For burgers, maybe Pie 'n Burger was too out of the way but Cassell's was near where he hung out the most and Irv's is not that far from his lodging.  Oh well.
