Just a couple of months after opening up her own first restaurant, Rocio Camacho, the J. Gold approved Mole'ra formerly of Mole's La Tia and La Huasteca, has opened up a second locale. The Sun Valley extension of Rocio's Mole De Los Dioses officially opened last Saturday, Jan. 14 in a strip mall next to a nopal tortilla factory.

The Sun Valley mole house has the same menu as Camacho's original location in South East L.A. -- except for a few changes.

A small pre-opening reception was held on Friday the 13th and we went along. A few of Camacho's signature green nopal tortilla based creations were passed out to try, including a grassy empanada encasing Huitlacoche and another one fried Panucho style and topped with the chef's majestically tender Cochinita Pibil and creamy black beans.

The menu editing still needs some work and the prices are all $3-$4 more than the original location for some reason. But there is booze available in the Sunland location, although it's corporate beer and $5 glasses of whatever wines for now. Also, Camacho is offering a five course chef's tasting menu.

Rocio's Mole De Los Dioses: 8255 Sunland Blvd Sun Valley; (818) 252-6415.
