Abricott: Now Open in Pasadena
For all of you who think of Pasadena as a food desert of sorts, your barren culinary landscape just improved. John and Jo Wee, the couple who own and operate Daisy Mint, just opened a second restaurant, on Lake Avenue. Abricott opened its doors last Monday, Jan. 23, in the location previously occupied by Koo Koo Roo.

Walk through the doors to Abricott ("Why the name? Just for fun.") and you can tell immediately that it's run by the same people who brought you Daisy Mint's blend of Asian and French food, not only because the menu has similar themes but because the place looks kind of the same. Mirrors and artwork line the walls, antique chairs and tables and, in this case, a very comfy sofa fill the large space. Books load mismatched bookshelves and built-in shelves. Imagine your neighborhood pan-Asian joint crossed with a DIY antique store.
Breakfast -- croque-monsieur, waffles, omelets, a pretty cool Viet-style platter of sizzling eggs with toast -- is served until 3 p.m. Lunch features salads and sandwiches (pho, bánh mì, the Abricott burger). Dinner has more of the same, plus chicken wings, salad Niçoise, curry, flank steak and mussels Provençal, plus waffles for dessert and petits fours. The coffee is pretty good too: LAMILL and a La Marzocca machine, impressive and gleaming and up front, next to the pastry case. The restaurant is open all day, though from 3-5 p.m. the cooks take a break and you can order drinks and salads and sandwiches from the deli case.
