Thanks to The Kitchn, which tipped us to Dinner in NY, a project from photographer Miho Aikawa. The series of intimate portraits features an array of New Yorkers as they eat their dinner: alone or with friends, distractedly or contemplatively, texting, working, drinking, regaling friends, watching children.

Explaining her project, Aikawa writes:
Consumption of food is as an essential element of life as sleeping for a human being... However, even if the food provides the necessary nutrition, that alone is not enough... Having dinner is not just about eating food, but portrays many aspects of our lives.

What is a quality dinner? There are as many answers as there are subjects.

Our only question: When is Aikawa coming to Los Angeles?
