Openings and Closings Around Town: A January Restaurant Roundup
It's nearing the lunch hour, you're browsing Yelp and scouring the blogs. You come across a post on the closure of a long-admired restaurant in your community. "Rent increase ... management reorganization ... menu changes," the owner shares. Before the owner can clear out the sauce-stained aprons on the kitchen floor, a "coming soon" sign for a pop-up selling bacon-wrapped chocolate appears on the front door.![]()

Remembering the places that surprised us and stuck around for a while, RIP Sushi Nozawa (closing Feb. 29), Angeli Caffe, Vive la Crêpe in Beverly Hills (which lasted barely a year) and countless other gems around town.
In a thank-you note posted on Angeli's website, owner Evan Kleiman writes, "All the staff and I have been so touched by the outpouring of affection. The Caffe may be closed but we're all still around. Kathy and I are still cooking privately and we are available for catering with Ivana. You can reach us at evan@evankleiman.com."
Read on for a list of this month's openings and closings:
