Dunkin' Donuts Plans San Diego Branch

Dunkin' Donuts claims "America Runs on Dunkin'." Yet its 6,772 U.S. stores are concentrated on the East Coast. Another 2,988 are located in 30 foreign countries. Talk about false advertising.

Dunkin' Donuts is taking a step toward living up to its slogan. The company has announced it will open a California location in the spring. But it's not the good news you might think: reportedly the spot at Camp Pendleton in San Diego County will be accessible only to those who live, work, or train on the base.

At least we have places like Spudnuts, the first nationwide doughnut chain to reach Los Angeles.

California's last Dunkin' Donuts branch, in Sacramento, closed a decade ago. Since then, Angelenos have seen imitators with variations on the pink and orange logo. (And Dunkin' Donuts products fill local grocery aisles.) But, to the true fan, nothing can compare. One couple had its wedding at a local New Jersey branch. If you believe a Yelp thread that sparked nearly 200 comments, the draw isn't the namesake sweets, but the tasty, reliable, cheap, coffee.
