In our last handy food flowchart, we tried to point you in the right direction for those times when you just need a bowl of phở to comfort your soul. Today, our flowchart helps you navigate the city when you're in search of another type of comforting soul food: fried chicken. And because sometimes you want that chicken with a side of kimchi pancakes or Japanese pub grub, we threw in a few suggestions that will satisfy your craving by way of Koreatown or the local izakaya.

You're all nuts. The best fried chicken in LA can be had at any Popeye's. Make sure it's spicy. The biscuits are sinfully good, the fries are funky and Chef Tony Bourdain says his favorite mac and cheese is from Popeye's. Oh, yeah. The price is right.

If you're in Santa Monica, try the coconut fried chicken at Cha Cha Chicken.

I REALLY have to give a shout out here to Boneyard Bistro fried chicken on Monday nights only.  It's my favorite in LA.  I love Roscoe's but there is something about the Boneyard chicken that I like most.  It may be the fact that it's a cornmeal + flour blend or that it just doesn't seem very greasy.  The meal comes with two sides one potato salad and the other cole slaw.  You can get it in half or 1/4 and if you ask nicely they've been known to do only dark meat (probably white too).    I also agree with Phoeber5 below about the fried chicken salad at Tender Greens YUMMY!

If you are willing to drive to Southbay you must try The Kettle (in Manhattan Beach) ...Best Buttermilk Honey Fried Chicken in all of  La La Land. hands down.

Every time I have been to Roscoe's (Hollywood and the Pico locations) their chicken has been extraordinarily disgusting. Dry and flavorless. Their waffles are good, but the chicken, nope. Not worth the money.

Jim Dandy's icky. This is from the guy who also recommended Hu's. So maybe that caption should read: "I decided what I really wanted was fried dougnut holes instead of fried chicken".

this is great! but what if i wanted filipino fried chicken or korean wings in a waffle sandwich with beer?

I get it, though, this outlines only the most prevalent types of fried chicken in the city. And the chicken waffle sandwich....im pretty sure it exists somewhere. Like the doughnut bacon-hamburger

Suffice to say that the "chicken-waffle-sandwich" does indeed exist. I'd tell you where the best is, but I've been sworn to secrecy, so I can't. But I would if I could, and it's fucking stupendous.
