New Farmers Market at the Autry National Center
Not content to run just one farmers market adjacent to Griffith Park, the folks who brought us the Yamashiro Farmers Market -- which reopened for the season on April 5 -- are aiming east and will be launching a destination farmers market at the Autry National Center, across the street from the Los Angeles Zoo and a couple of golf courses.

Which is why we call it a destination market. Aside from the zoo's ibexes and African elephants, the closest community residents are on the other side of the 5 freeway and the Los Angeles River in Moorpark -- not quite within walking distance. But the market will be a welcome addition for the hard-working folks in nearby studios who often toil through the weekends with nary a salad in sight. The new weekly market will kick off on Saturday, April 28, in the Autry parking lot from 8 a.m. to noon. There will be 16 vendors and members of the Autry will receive a 10% discount at all the booths.
Confirmed vendors so far include Tutti Frutti Farms, Underwood Family Farms, Avila & Sons Farms, Milkman Artisan Cheeses, Homeboy Bakery, Novy Ranch, Cobblermania and Longshot Espresso. There also will be freshly prepared foods by Heirloom L.A., Global Soul and the Crepe Kitchen. And if you're feeling more brunchy, the Autry Cafe will open at 10 a.m. to welcome marketgoers with a mimosa and Bloody Mary bar.
