Macy's doesn't just celebrate holidays. It celebrates "months." Black History Month in February. Then Hispanic Heritage Month in September. For June, LGBT National Pride Month. Now, it's Asian Pacific American Heritage Month -- and that calls for food. This Saturday afternoon, two store locations will present cooking demonstrations; one with chef and author Bee Yinn Low, and another with JTYH Restaurant as well as Nguyen and Thi Tran of Starry Kitchen.

At 2 p.m., Macy's South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa will host Low, author of Easy Chinese Recipes: Family Favorites From Dim Sum to Kung Pao and blogger at Rasa Malaysia. Her book, which we wrote about last fall (check out the recipe for pork dumpling soup), is a collection of recipes inspired by her Chinese upbringing in Malaysia, including crispy shrimp dumplings, kung pao chicken, sweet-and-sour pork, chow mein noodles and Mongolian beef. It's an offshoot of Rasa Malaysia, the blog. Although the name means "Malaysian Taste," the site includes more than 400 recipes from backgrounds including Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Indian. At the Macy's event, also expect a Lion Dance performance (12:45 and 1:15 p.m.) and a Japanese tea ceremony demonstration (3:30 p.m.).

Visit the Santa Anita location at 2 p.m. for a noodle-cutting demonstration from Peng Shi of JTYH Restaurant in Rosemead. Could they be the Shanxi knife-cut noodles? One can only hope. At 4 p.m., expect a demonstration from the chef-owners of Vietnamese eatery Starry Kitchen, whose most recent projects have been marijuana-inspired dinners. (At one, the marijuana was meant to complement traditional Chinese herbs.) We're not sure what they'll serve, but the presentation could involve a banana suit worn by the oft-costumed Nguyen. Lion and Dragon dance performances will happen at 2 and 5 p.m. Macy's is offering an apron "commemorating Asian Pacific American heritage month" with any $75 purchase.

Looks quite delicious indeed.  I hope this can be made in a normal kitchen.
