Zoe Nathan Hosts KCRW's "Good Food" Pie Contest Fundrasier

Is there a more enjoyable way to support KCRW than eating some pie? This Thursday, August 2, Huckleberry in Santa Monica will be teaming up with "Good Food" host Evan Kleiman to serve a family-style, three-course menu created by chef and co-owner Zoe Nathan.

The spread includes an a pre-dinner snack of spiced nuts, heirloom tomato crostatas with local goat cheese and arugula, free range fried chicken with sweet corn succotash, and of course, a special old-fashioned peach pie (made from one of Nathan's favorite recipes) with Sweet Rose Creamery vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Tickets are available on the KCRW website for $30 per person, with seatings from 6 - 9:30 p.m. available for purchase. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the 4th annual "Good Food" Pie Contest, planned for this September at LACMA.

I absolutely love the pastries at Huckleberry and Milo & Olive, but have to say, I don't think Zoe Nathan does pie well. I've tried both her lemon meringue and  chocolate pies, and was disappointed by both. The fillings and crust were too dense. I much prefer her cakes, like the strawberry corn cake with cream cheese frosting.
