With L.A. festivals dedicated to burgers, tacos, ice cream and the like, it seemed only a matter of time until someone decided to design an event around the comfort food classic. The good news? The inaugural Los Angeles Fried Chicken Fest, coming Sunday, Aug. 26, in Beverly Hills, looks to be every bit as delicious as you would hope.

A slate of eight local chefs each will serve their own unique twist on some crispy yardbird, as well as bottomless Knob Creek whiskey and El Tesoro tequila cocktail punches from barman Josh Goldman and beer pours from Paso Robles' Firestone Walker Brewing. Here's the current lineup:

Josef Centeno, Baco Mercat/Bar Ama
David LeFevre, Manhattan Beach Post
Mary Sue Milliken, Border Grill
Matt Molina, Mozza
Bryant Ng, Spice Table
Jazz Singsanong, Jitlada
Marcel Vigneron and Haru Kishi, the Coop
Ricardo Zarate, Picca/Mo-Chica

The event will take place from 4-8 p.m. at the former Gonpachi restaurant on Robertson, a sprawling space that is currently utilized as the site for Marcel Vigneron's Coop pop-up.

Food GPS founder Josh Lurie and Helen Springut of the L.A. Gastronauts teamed up to help organize the charity event, with 10 percent of the ticket proceeds to go to Share Our Strength, a foundation that works to end childhood hunger in America.

Tickets, which include unlimited drinks and a plate of fried chicken and side dish from each chef, are $45 per person if purchased by Aug. 19, and $55 per person thereafter. They can be bought exclusively at www.lafriedchickenfest.com.

Um, Gonpachi was on North La Cienega (on Restaurant Row), not Robertson...

I have to admit, I'm torn. On the one hand, I'm a sucker for fried chicken and the lineup of chefs seems impeccable. On the other, the words "1st annual" send a shiver down my spine. I generally avoid food festivals their first year because things are usually so disorganized the first time around. Quite the delicious dilemma....
