Mini-Wheats Recalled Due to Contamination With Metal Pieces
We know they're iron-fortified, but ... Kellogg Co. is recalling 2.8 million packages of Mini-Wheats cereal due to possible contamination with pieces of metal mesh. Now that's a cereal that stays crunchy in milk.

The company expects the recall to cost it $30 million, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The recall affects Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite-Size Original and Mini-Wheats Unfrosted Bite Size in sizes that range from single-serve to 70-ounce cartons. Kellogg blamed the contamination on "a faulty manufacturing part," and said no injuries had been reported.
According to the Kellogg website, "One bowl of Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats cereal is packed with fiber and nearly a day's worth of whole grains to help keep you full all morning." Not just whole grains -- whole machine parts!
Affected packages display the letters FK, KB or AP before or after the Best If Used Before dates, which span between April 1, 2013 and Sept. 21, 2013. The tainted cereal was distributed throughout the United States. A full list of recalled products is on the Kellogg website.
The incident is what the WSJ euphemistically calls "another supply-chain glitch" for the Battle Creek, Mich., food manufacturer, which recalled a variety of its cereals in 2010 because of odd colors and noxious odors traced to "improper packaging." In that instance, Kellogg recalled boxes of Corn Pops, Apple Jacks, Honey Smacks and Fruit Loops after consumers experienced nausea, vomiting and mouth numbness.
Kellogg also makes such products as Pop-Tarts, Rice Krispies, Special K, Frosted Flakes and Eggo waffles, and recently acquired Pringles.
Kellogg says consumers with affected product or who have questions should contact the Kellogg Consumer Response Center at (800) 962-1413 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday-Friday.
Unless you're the Iron Giant, in which case, eat up.
