Pineapple
To simplify your piña colada making, Australian fruit Frankensteins have created a pineapple that tastes like coconut.

The Department of Agriculture's research station in Queensland has been working on the new breed of pineapple for more than a decade, ABC News reports.

Senior horticulturalist Garth Senewski says the AusFestival pineapple is now in the final stages of production.

"It's currently being multipled by our commercial development," he said, adding, "It has this lovely coconut flavor ... It's sweet, low acid, very juicy."

But he said the coconut taste was actually a happy accident, saying scientists were just "looking for a nice-flavored pineapple," not coconut "or any other particular flavor."

Sadly, it will be another two years before AusFestival -- already nicknamed "the piña colada pineapple" -- is commercially available.

Coconuts!
