Plate: LA Weekly's 5th Annual Food and Wine Event on March 3

For all of you who drive by the Petersen Automotive Museum, not to check out the cars but to reminisce about all the gluttony that has gone on there in previous years, it's time to mark your calendars. Once again, the car palace will be the site of LA Weekly's annual food and wine event, formerly known as the Gold Standard and now renamed as Plate. Same idea, shorter title.

Think what you'll be carrying around for 4 hours; or maybe plate tectonics, if you're secretly a Caltech physicist when you're not blogging about bacon foam. Some of us are fond of plate-spinning, for perhaps obvious reasons. Anyway, pen in Sunday March 3 and stop making reservations on OpenTable for at least a few days before. Tickets go on sale Jan. 24.

The event will run March 3 from 1 - 5 p.m., with the doors opening early for VIP entry at noon (no lines; an actual goodie bag). If you're way too impatient to wait until next week to buy your tickets, here's a deal for half-price early tickets ($37 each!).

As for what you're really interested in, there will be many, many of your favorite restaurants attending. So far, in alphabetical order: Border Grill, Canelé, Eva, Fred 62, Huckleberry, Jitlada, La Casita Mexicana, Little Dom's, Lukshon, Mo-Chica, Night + Market, Nickel Diner, Oinkster, Parks BBQ, Phillippe's, Picca, Tom Bergin's and Valentino. Imagine. There will be more, including some excellent coffee, beer, wine and cocktails (for which we are very, very grateful), more drinks and of course, more food. Of which, details to come.

General admission tickets are $75, VIP $95. Please remember that there are no tickets available at the door. A portion of the proceeds benefit Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, and sponsors include dineLA, UCLA Extension, the International Academy of Film and Television. Maybe go see Argo after you're done binge eating for 4 hours. (The Oscars are Feb. 24, not this Sunday, and the Super Bowl will have been long over.) Or, since the Petersen is conveniently located across the street from LACMA, check out the Kubrick exhibition. Nothing like staring at Jack Nicholson's typewriter while dreaming of green curry mussels.
