Special K Red Berries
Special K comes in flavors including blueberries, red berries, "chocolatey delight," "chocolately strawberry," cinnamon pecan, fruit & yogurt, oats & honey, and vanilla almond. And now you can add a new ingredient to the mix -- glass fragments.

Coming right on the heels of Nestle's recall last week of Lean Cuisine due to glass in the ravioli, Kellogg's is recalling its Special K Red Berries cereal, saying some boxes might contain glass pieces, KTLA reports.

The recall affects three sizes of the cereal, including:

  • 11.2 ounce boxes with use by date of Dec. 2, 2013, followed by NKC105 and time stamp of 00:13-2:30
  • 22.4 ounce boxes with use by date of Nov. 30, 2013, followed by KNA 105 and time stamp of 07:00-08:5. Also, those with use by date of Nov. 30, 2013, followed by KNB 105 and time stamp of 15:00-17:05
  • 37 ounce boxes with use by date of Nov. 30, 2013, followed by NKB 107 and time stamp of 17:31-20:05.

According to the company, packages of any size other than 11.2, 22.4 or 37 ounces are not impacted by this recall.

This is the third cereal recall in less than three years for Kellogg's. In October, the company recalled nearly 3 million boxes of its bite-size Frosted and Unfrosted Mini-Wheats cereal because of the possible presence of metal fragments from a faulty manufacturing part. In 2010, Kellogg's recalled four cereal brands -- Fruit Loops, Corn Pops, Apple Jacks, and Honey Smacks -- because of a weird smell and flavor attributed to a screw-up in the packaging that made some consumers vomit. According to the Wall Street Journal, Kellogg's spent $100 million in 2012 to fix problems with its supply chain. The October recall set them back another estimated $30 million.

We have no problem with high-fiber cereal, but this is getting ridiculous.
