McDonald's to Make Yolk-Free Egg McMuffins: Or, More Ways to Combat Obesity!

traditional Egg McMuffin
Conveniently in time for Easter, I guess, the fast food chain McDonald's has announced that it will begin making its Egg McMuffins without the egg yolks. Starting this spring, according to the Associated Press, you'll be able to get your oh-so-healthful breakfast sandwich made that much better for you, i.e. with just the egg whites.

The "Egg White Delight" will be made with egg whites, Canadian bacon and cheddar cheese, and thus will run you 260 calories -- 40 down from the 300 calories of the traditional Egg McMuffin. Right. So your cholesterol count will be a bit better, but maybe if McDonald's is really trying to address the obesity epidemic, perhaps they might want to rethink the cheese -- or maybe the bacon. Just a thought.

To use the word HeALTHY in the same sentence as McDonalds is ridiculous

We blame McDonalds for making food people like to eat and taking their money. Oh, they are so evil. They have salads. No one is forced to go there at gunpoint. Eggs without yolks taste like crap. These are all truths. Except the "evil" part.

How about closing up entirely. That's a better way to fight obesity.

Eh, egg mcmuffins are relatively healthy, all things considered. Lots of protein from the Canadian bacon (which is A. way different than regular bacon & B. significantly healthier than regular bacon- 6g protein, 45 calories in one thick slice compared to 30 calories, 2g protein in a wimpy bacon piece) & egg, the english muffin provides a better base than a biscuit, croissant or "griddle cake". Only real egregious offender is the processed cheese slice.

Remove the butter, yolk & cheese & make that muffin whole grain  & you'll have yourself a decadent breakfast sandwich, at least by fast food standards.
