Courses include an amuse-bouche of Dungeness crab salad, a main course of braised veal short ribs with rutabaga purée, and a dessert of apricot tart tatin with Drake Family Farms goat cheese and Chantilly cream.

Tacos & Beer 5K will be taking place in Long Beach, sponsored by Exitos 93.9 FM MC Raq-c and MC Nachin, Bud Light Lime, TeQava, and East Los Angeles Tacos. Participants who finish the race will receive a taco and a beer in addition to a finisher medal, goodie bag, and t-shirt. Food trucks and live cover bands are scheduled to appear.

To show how meals with fresh food can be made on a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) budget, chefs Nyesha Arrington of Wilshire Restaurant and Stefano de Lorenzo of La Botte will be facing off tomorrow, April 27, at The Gourmandise School in Santa Monica Iron Chef-style. Arrington and de Lorenzo will each be given $22.26 to purchase ingredients at the Santa Monica Farmers Market.

Today is National Pretzel Day, a holiday that is actually Pennsylvanian -- due to the state's early German and Dutch settlers who popularized the snack. It was declared not once, but twice in a span of twenty years by two Pennsylvanian politicians. So celebrate it for the pretzels, which are pretty great eats if done well. It also beats honoring Richter Scale Day -- a holiday that's a lot more relevant to Angelenos -- which is also today. No offense to seismologists.
