Joe Pytka Report: Bastide to Reopen in Mid-November, With Jerome Voltat Behind the Stoves

Rumors are the most fun when they're true. According to a highly reliable source who wishes to remain anonymous (and news stories are the most fun when you get to say that), today's Eater LA report that Bastide is reopening is correct.

Joe Pytka's Melrose Place restaurant, shuttered since last November, will reopen "mid-November" (that's almost one year later) with former L'Orangerie chef Jérôme Voltat (Le Bristol in Paris, Michel Guérard in Éugénie-les-Bains, Pic in Valence) behind the stoves. Voltat will be the second L'Orangerie chef to cook for the quixotic Pytka: the other L'Orangerie alum (and fellow Frenchman) was Ludo Lefebvre, who was the Bastide chef after Alain Giraud and before Walter Manzke. Paul Shoemaker was the chef when Pytka suddenly closed Bastide a year ago. That's if you're keeping score at home. I bet Pytka is.

Bastide: 8475 Melrose Place, West Hollywood; (323) 651-5950.

This is not true, you will see. Maybe you should try asking Joe Pytka who the Chef is. This for a fact is not true, I know the person who is the Chef. Maybe you should not listen to info Jerome is telling you.

I'm sure this is as accurate as a previous claim made that Ludovic Lefebvre signed a lease with Rita Flora.

James says:

Jerome Voltat has been busy working for a couple of A-listers, and is a super discreet guy so I doubt he has time spreading rumors about himself.

you obviously don't know the dude...

Truth says:

Hey WRONG,

You have no idea what you are talking about. I know Jerome Voltat and like James said he is a very discreet quite guy. Maybe you better get your facts straight before spreading rumors. But i guess that is what you bloggers are all about, factless rumors.

This guy Jerome was never considered for the position. He was tested and they didn't like any of his food. There was a runner up to the Joseph Mahon selection that will remain nameless because he chooses not to talk about it. He also doesn't like spreading false rumors claiming something before it is official.
