Orso To Close + A NYT Eulogy for the Hollywood Power Lunch

Orso LA

Today's New York Times art section has a nice obituary of Orso, the West Hollywood restaurant that will close its doors on November 21st. "Like Morton's, Chasen's and the original Spago on Sunset Boulevard, Orso -- loved less for its food than for the gossip on its ficus-shaded patio -- is soon to become the latest entry on a list of Hollywood lunch-and-dinner power spots that used to be," eulogizes the Times. Ah, yes, but we still have The Ivy, don't we?

Orso manager Carter Cole confirmed that the restaurant will serve it's last dinner on the 21st. "We had a good run. Over 20 years," said Cole. Orso opened in January, 1981. The New York and London branches of the restaurant will remain open. Orso was recently sold to restaurateur Sean MacPherson (The Roger Room, Jones, Bar Lubitsch), who will rework the space into a new restaurant. In the meantime, Orso will continue to serve dinner until the closing date.

Orso: 8706 W. 3rd Street, Los Angeles; (310) 274-7144.
