The Masses in Marfa: Edited by Matt Amato In the first week of May, the Masses art collective gathered a dozen-and-a-half kindreds and traveled to Marfa, Texas for the first annual Marfa Film Festival. In typical Masses fashion, almost everybody involved recorded the journey in some fashion. (This footage was shot by Trevor DiCarlo.)
Ben Harper "Morning Yearning" Director: Heath Ledger Heath Ledger made his first video for the Masses for his friend Ben Harper. Shot in Los Angeles with many of the Masses as his crew, the actor was beginning the process of learning about life behind the lens.
Ima Robot, "Lovers In Captivity" Director: Matt Amato Matt Amato's video for Ima Robot's "Lovers in Captivity" from 2006 features singer Alex Ebert and actor Brady Corbet. Filmed at Amato's South Orange home and a seedy hotel, the clip's sexually ambiguous tone creates a mysterious eroticism that only deepens as the song progresses.
The Dodos - "Fools" Director: Matt Amato Few performance videos manage to capture the hyper-kinetic essence of a two-piece in motion the way "Fools" does. The precision editing only adds to the feeling that you're not only in the room, but on the stage with the band.
Bon Iver - "Wolves (Act 1 & 2)" Director Matt Amato The story of the making of "Wolves (Act I & II)" is the story of heartbreak, of grief, of confusion. It's also, however, a story of the beauty of life.
