Mike Watt Interviewed by Ian Svenious for Soft Focus

Categories: Pop-Ed

Not many people have acknowledged that this June will be the 25th anniversary of the release of the Minutemen's seminal Double Nickels on the Dime. As part of an ongoing celebration of that monumental, transformative album, we'll be tossing up classic Minutemen moments in the coming few months. The above interview with former Minutemen bassist Mike Watt is from ex-Nation of Ulysses singer and excellent writer Ian Svenious's web show Soft Focus.

In fact, and we're kind of thinking out loud here, this summer is the 25th anniversary of a lot of classic SST releases; Double Nickels came out around the same time as Husker Du's Zen Arcade; Black Flag's My War and Slip It In; Saint Vitus's self-titled proto black metal classic; and Saccharine Trust's Surviving You, Always.

For now, though, here's the Minutemen's "History Lesson, Pt. 2," as interpreted by the Hold Steady in Los Angeles last fall.
