Video Premiere: Tom Brosseau Wanders Through Downtown LA in "You Don't Know My Friends"

There have been days this summer when our desire to listen to Tom Brosseau's new Posthumous Success has approached craving. Driving through Hollywood, we've rummaged through the piles of discs on the floorboard like a smoker digging for half-smoked butt. But then, usually it's not a problem if it's not there; the songs are looping through our head from morning to night like a new Beyonce song on KIIS-FM. It cracked our top five in a recent countdown of great 2009 LA records, and Pitchfork recently bestowed upon it a too-conservative 7.0.

So it gives us no small amount of pleasure to premiere Brosseau's new video for "You Don't Know My Friends." Directed by Jamie Seborer and shot by Seth Kotok on Super 8 film* in downtown Los Angeles, the video sees the North Dakota born, LA-based Brosseau, who gigs mostly at Largo, roaming a busy city in a cowboy's hat. Looking like Jon Voight's character Joe Buck in Midnight Cowboy, the singer with the gentle warble and the rich guitar seems lost, but on a mission.

*Editor's note: The original version of this post failed to identify Seth Kotok as the cameraman/director of photography for the new video. We've corrected the post, and apologize for the error.
