Faith and the Muse at Dragon*Con

Categories: Synthful

Every year, thousands of sci-fi, fantasy and related fans descend upon Atlanta for Dragon*Con. Aside from a great schedule of panelists (William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy on the same panel! Terry Gilliam!), Dragon*Con seems heavy on night time entertainment, including concerts from artists like Voltaire, Weep and LA-based Faith and the Muse.

Being unable to attend Dragon*Con this year, I spent most of the weekend and this week searching for YouTube footage from the convention. This morning, I came across two clips from Faith and the Muse, one acoustic and one not.

Formed in 1993, Faith and the Muse consists of Monica Richards, who got her start in the DC hardcore scene of the '80s before fronting indie band Strange Boutique, and William Faith (Shadow Project, Christian Death, Mephisto Walz, Sex Gang Children). Their first two albums, Elyria and Annwyn, Beneath the Waves are considered highly influential in the development of darkwave in the 1990s, particularly for their inclusion of Celtic sounds.

Faith and the Muse hit up Dragon*Con with a new live band this year, which includes Marzia Rangel and Steven James of The Deadfly Ensemble. No word yet on when they'll be playing a hometown date.

If you're interested in reading more about Dragon*Con, check out the blog Convention Fans, which will be posting coverage throughout this week.
