Dangerbird Co-Owner to Cycle Across U.S. for Pablove Foundation
Only 11 weeks ago, Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz lost his 6-year-old son Pablo to cancer. If silver linings are to be found in such heavy tragedy, it's that the Pablove Foundation, founded in the midst of the boy's battle with the disease, has been busy since, working to raise money and spread awareness in hopes of improving the treatment experience for children with cancer. With this goal in mind, Castelaz himself is preparing to embark on a 30-day cross-country bike ride spanning 3100 miles, beginning in St. Augustine, Florida, and ending at Pablo's grave in the Hollywood Hills. Castelaz and Lance Armstrong announced the news on Friday in a video shot at Griffith Park's Travel Town.
Though Armstrong, who visited Pablo during his stay at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, won't be joining Castelaz for the ride, the dedicated cyclist won't be alone. He'll be accompanied by his coach, Rick Babington, as well as a video crew who'll document the feat and offer daily content online -- we're guessing through the Pablog site. Castelaz aims to raise $1 million through donations, and an as-yet-unscheduled eBay charity auction. Pablove Across America departs October 10.
