Best Coast Abuzz: An LA Noise Pop Artist Pops Nationally

Categories: Off the Record

If you've been paying attention to the underground noise pop scene lately -- and who wouldn't be? -- the name Best Coast may mean something to you. In one of those coming-storm moments, the whisper through the blog world on LA-based Best Coast has been gradually turning into a bonafide moan. Pitchfork named the band's "The Sun Was High (So Was I) one of the best singles of the year (well, number 94 of a wildly uneven 100), calling it, rather oddly, a "much-needed feminine breeze for the year." Stereogum pumped them, too.

The band, actually the nom-de-fake of Bethany Consentino, formerly of LA noise-psych team Pocahaunted, is gigging on Friday night at Spaceland with Foreign Born, and will be touring with the Vivian Girls in February.

She's releasing split 7" with Jeans Wilder on French/Canadian label Atelier Ciseaux next month, and a release on No Age drummer Dean Spunt's PPM imprint in February.

Here's another fan video:
