Charlotte Gainsbourg Reveals Haunting Songs on American Television Debut

In France, Charlotte Gainsbourg is an A-List celebrity. She's the daughter of the most important musician in French pop music and has a film career spanning nearly three decades. In America, however, she has become something of an indie sweetheart, starring in challenging, sweet, and cerebral films by the most creative directors in the business. Her newest album IRM, (listen to a stream here), produced by Beck, is a diverse powerhouse, highlighting Charlotte's airy voice wafting through the eclectic mix. Even with three albums behind her, Charlotte has a confession: she has never played music live. Until now. Last week, she played her first U.S. shows ever in New York, and appeared live on Letterman for her national television debut. Her live band includes guitarist Amir Yaghmai from L.A. based electrospazzes, Jogger, and a werewolf.

I recently asked Charlotte about appearing on Letterman. Her response:

"I'm absolutely terrified."

See how she did on Letterman and in Brooklyn after the jump:
