Twitter Buzz: Drumcell and Richard Devine Collaboration on the Horizon?

Categories: Synthful

Two weeks ago, Drumcell mastermind and Droid Behavior member Moe Espinosa tweeted a video of a room filled with piles of gear and crazy space noises. We wondered what the DJ/producer was doing. As it turns out, he's been working with Richard Devine.

Devine is one of the most challenging and acclaimed electronic producers on the scene. He's also a supporter of Droid Behavior's ventures, having played numerous parties thrown by the crew over the years. Espinosa headed out to Devine's homebase of Atlanta to mess around in his studio, which the L.A. DJ describes as being like "a crazy museum" filled with modular synths and vintage gear. They also did a few field recordings involving water-filled pipes during this time. The sessions will hopefully result in a collaborative release, but, in the meantime, Espinosa (@drumce11 on Twitter) has posted the video as a teaser for his friends and fans.

We were quite curious as to what gear was involved in this video. Much of the music emanates from a Native Instruments program called Reaktor that is being controlled by Jazz Mutant's Lemur touchscreen. The "bubbly sounds" in the background stem from a hand-built modular system that features pieces from Tip Top Audio, Cwjeman, Plan B and Harvestman, amongst others. That's just the short list.

We have more gear talk with Drumcell coming soon, so check back often or follow @lizohanesian on Twitter.
