Rhino Records Returns as Pop-Up Store

Variety (via LA Observed) reports that local-oddball-hangout-turned-global-reissue-leader Rhino Records will return as one of these newfangled "pop-up stores" for a brief spell from May 17 to May 31, at 1740 Westwood Blvd.

The temporary Rhino will be located three doors down from its original location in Westwood. The legendary store, which spawned the celebrated archival label now part of a conglomerate, functioned there until 2006 and it already returned as a pop-up during the 2007 holidays.

Events will include a reunion of the cult '60s band The Merry-Go-Round, led by Emmitt Rhodes. It's unclear whether Wild Man Fisher, Dr. Demento, Big Daddy, the Golden Throats celebrities or even assorted Turtles and Monkees will be at hand, though it would be amazing. (Some of you know what I'm talking about, right?)

BONUS TRACK:

An obscure little Northwestern band playing the Westwood Rhino Records location. That singer is such a screamer.
