Anita Baker and Snoop Dogg Put Final Touches on "Super Fly" Soundtrack Cover
We hear that last Monday RnB legend Anita Baker was in the studio working on her upcoming album due out in the Fall. This woulnd't be so newsworthy, but we've left two very important details out: she was putting the final touches on a duet with Snoop Dogg and that duet was Curtis Mayfield's "Give Me Your Love," the slow jam from the Super Fly soundtrack.
Baker is producing the album with Nathan East, Daniel Moore, George Duke and others. She has described the duet as a "big, lush" version of the Mayfield song and she promises that "is going to raise eyebrows." The rest of the album will be original material.
The track has been in the works since last July, when Billboard reported the duo had been in the studio:
One of [her collaborators] could be rapper Snoop Dogg, who Baker is working with on an adaptation of Curtis Mayfield's "Give Me Your Love (Love Song)" from the "Superfly" soundtrack. "We do it in a very contemporary way, a very grown-up way," Baker says. "It's lovely -- who knew that Snoop is madly in love with his wife, you know? We've got a chance to see that in the way his music has grown, so when he comes in to do dialogue over that love theme, it becomes very grown-up and contemporary at the same time."
Snoop, by the way, is no stranger to the Mayfield tune: he had sampled it years ago for Doggystyle's "Bathtub."
