His MySpace page could use some pimping, but Compton rapper H.O.P.E., a.k.a. 24-year-old Marquis Wright, has got the skills to pay the bills.

Whoops -- bad choice of outdated idiom. In the just-out music video for the new H.O.P.E. track, "Bliss," our unlikely hero has his lights turned out as a result of insufficient funds.

The clip plays more like a short film, actually, with an intro that finds him berating a supposed DWP employee -- "Did I call the Spanish line?" -- and a parting shot that finds H.O.P.E. bouncing his young son on his lap while listening to a beat on his iMac. Happy ending: power restored.

But in between, the soul-steeped Ro Blvd beat drops out and H.O.P.E gets some sage advice from a peer before emcee Y-O, from Inglewood duo U-N-I, steps in to croon a thing or two.

The actual track is available as a free download via H.O.P.E.'s Bandcamp page, and the Calmatic-directed vid is after the jump.
