• Wow, officer... you're one of America's finest, I see. Its very simple to pin the world's problems on people of low-income communities of color. Anybody can come up with ideas on how to better improve the conditions in such places. The real thinking comes in the realization that the heads of multi-billion dollar corporations like Goldmann Sachs or AIG (yes, they're all run by white males but thats a whole different issue) are the ones responsible for creating this economic hardship on the middle and lower class... open your eyes and stop blaming the little guys. For example, these corporations ship their jobs out overseas (this adds to inflation) and still have the audacity to blame humble workers just trying to get by and survive in this ruthless country.

• Dear Fusion, one more thing... even though I don't support the Arizona law, I believe that people who do support the law can get much better results by going through legal means. Instead of perverting our system of criminal justice, ask for more ICE agents to be stationed at County jails. Or how about increasing the ability for Mexican nationals to become US citizens but limit it to only to trained nurses and engineers (or any other type of professionals our country needs). That way Mexicans will know that they actually have a chance at becoming legal and we end up with immigrants who value education and provide the US what it needs.

• Dear Fusion, under our current system an undocumented person who uses false information to obtain government benefits (i.e. a driver's license) is a real crime that can and is prosecuted. Once that person is sent to jail for being convicted of that crime he or she will be deported. For example, hundreds of (mostly) men are deported each year for commiting domestic violence (and other crimes just like the rest of the population). Why? Because they actually committed a real crime--they had the intent to cause bodily injury. And the county jails have ICE agents that screen for immigration status and they do a pretty good job. Again how is mere presence a crime under our Constitution? Maybe another Country's laws could be twisted in such a way, but not ours--anyhow for these reasons I think our smart educated judges will find the law to be unconstitutional.

• Sami: I agree with most of what you are saying and see that you are like me in that you try to hear what people say before jumping to conclusions, I find honor in that. I understand that it may not be "fair" for the child that is brought to be judged, however what about the parents of the child whom willingfully and intentionally broke the law? I also understand where you are going with civil matters however there is also criminal negligence. I really dont care where we start but doing nothing and expecting change is insane. The other issue I have is that most of the "illegals" that have been here for 20 years are going under false names sometimes using stolen identities, causing fraud in the insurance and medical industries, getting student looans under false names defrauding the Government. • Fusion, your thoughts lead me to further question how this law is legitimate in our country. In Mexico you can also be convicted and sent to jail on nothing but a paper trail--no trial, no right to confront witnessess, etc... Thank God, really, for our legal system. If it's 20 times easier to become a US citizen it's because our government is a lot more efficient and far less corrupt than other countries. And of course you can be liable for negligence--but that's usually in civil court (i.e. for money) not criminal court. And in civil court you have to be able to prove that the negligence caused the injuries. And moreoever what injuries? Farmers are not injured, but maybe the high school drop out is. If we create a crime w/out criminal intent we are perverting our imperfect yet working system of justice.

• Well as a response to Sami, here are a couple of things to think about. 1. If you go to Mexico undocumented you will be incarcerated and kicked out regaurdlessw of your color race or creed. 2. It is 20 times easier to become a legal citizen of the United States than Mexico or Russia, or Poland, or Columbia....... 3. Ignorance of the Law does not meen you are not breaking the Law. 4. Intent does not trump negligence, there are to many Laws on the books that dont require intent. For example if you hurt someone out of negligence, even without intent you are more than likely responsible, you may argue, whom are these Aliens hurting, the answer my friend is clearly every tax payer in America regaurdless of race, creed or color. 5. My last point is this, if my parents were stupid enough to Mexico, Russia, Poland, Columbia etc. when I was 3 I would still be a citizen of the United States (thank God) and would be able to return as a citizen and yes I would be illegal in that country the difference is, I would not be able to live in that country 20 years before being deported.

• This is a simple issue of human dignity. People should read and look up what that Sherriff has done. If they still agree than fine . . . they you are an ass*&(e. Racism is yesterday, unity is today and tomorrow!

• I don't even understand how presence alone can turn into a crime. If I push someone during a fight I understand that I will be charged with battery because I had the criminal intent to touch that person without persmission. But if I fall on top of someone by accident then there is no crime because there is no criminal intent. How can someone's presence alone be a crime--where is the criminal intent? If someone is caught jumping the border then obviously the intent is there. But where is the intent when the crossing happened 20 years ago? What about the right to a speedy trial? What about all of the people that were brought by their parents when they were kids--where is the criminal intent? A law making mere presence a crime seems to go against our entire system of crime and punishment.

• How stupid. The Arizona law is nearly identical to others already on the books (both Federal and other states, RI, etc.) I hope a bunch of undocumented people go and pitch some tents in his front yard. Then he'll know how AZ residents feel about "human dignity".
