Cambodian Pop Freaks Dengue Fever Sign to Concord, Pick Up 'Jeopardy' and 'True Blood' Nods

Dengue Fever appear (in name) on "Jeopardy!"
The last L.A. indie band to get featured on Jeopardy! wound up going to the Grammys.

That was Silversun Pickups last May, of course, and now it seems the Cambodian-Angeleno weird-pop ensemble, Dengue Fever, has earned that rare game show designation.

They aren't celebrating with an awards show nod as well -- yet -- but the band has just announced that it's in the studio working on a fourth full-length, its first for the Concord label subsidiary Fantasy Records.

Word is Dengue is "psyched to be recording for the label that brought you classic Creedence Clearwater Revival albums."

Perhaps more appropriately, the same label has also delivered more worldly releases -- "obscure treasures from Korla Pandit," the self-styled swami from Missouri, and the most recent album from Alejandro Escovedo, Street Songs of Love.

But it's those odd signs of having "made it" that perhaps fit the Fever best -- becoming trivia fodder, having their song "One Thousand Tears of a Tarantula" singled out by Metallica's Kirk Hammett in Rolling Stone as his second favorite song of the decade (reprinted here), and having an episode of True Blood named after their song "Escape from Dragon House."

The band is reportedly hunkered down in West L.A.'s Village Studios. Title and release date are still forthcoming.
