Ari Up, RIP: Godmother of Punky Reggae Party
The great David Orlando, one of the organizers of local institution Punky Reggae Party just told us that tonight's weekly event at La Cita will be a celebration of the late, already much missed Ari Up.
Ari, the soul of the legendary Slits, was the godmother of the Punky Reggae Party, and was also pretty much the embodiment of those three words in one raucous, talented package.
"Ari was incredible," Orlando told us. "There will never be another like her. She had so much energy & love in her! And dread to the core. A musical warrior! She is, and will always be our Punky Reggae patron saint."
