Parlez-vous français? Local Rapper Dom Kennedy's New "Locals Only" Video Does

Ask Dom Kennedy where he came from, and he'll say Leimert Park. Ask him where he's headed, though. Following the lead of his shiny new video for "Locals Only," he'll probably leave the question open-ended.

Directed by Bryant Robinson for The Topshelf Company, the video's shot in one of L.A.'s grande dames, Union Station. But with Les Nubians' "Demain" playing over the opening credits, which are in French, we half expected Dom's paper to be Le Monde and the cafe prices to be in Euros.

Dom Kennedy's unsigned (read: no big-label budget), but his video's more elegant in its simplicity than many majors' splurges. It helps that the track, from the mixtape he released this past spring, From the Westside, With Love, and the visuals are complementary. With a muffled drum and haunting chord progression, BrandUn DeShay's production voices the vague sense of isolation and bittersweet dreaminess that soften the edges of reality when traveling alone.

"I ain't never had a video on no channel." Might have to edit that new extra verse you added onto the end of the song, Dom.
