This weekend, like every other in LA, there are soooo many things to do we struggled to distill them down into five. But behold! We did! And many of the stuff we found is all ages---imagine that! So, no excuses--a foundational figure in rockabilly AND a seminal punk band are both playing so get out and enjoy what the city has to offer:
Friday Night
What: Cirque Berzerk
Where: Club Nokia 800 West Olympic Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90015
When: 7pm
Additional Info: all ages/tickets $19.50-$125
What is Cirque Berzerk?
One way to describe it is a venue filled with acrobatics and tumblers and twisters and clown types performing for your amusement. Half circus, half freak show, all crazy. You Burning Man fans, hippies, punks, rainbow punks, freaks, nuts, psychos, maniacs--we know you're out there! This show is for all of you!
Friday Night
What: Melvins at the Satellite (formerly Spaceland)
Where: 1717 Silverlake Blvd, Silverlake
When: 9 pm
Additional Info: 21+, $20
Enter the realm of Buzz "King Buzzo" to see an amazing performance from this foundational band, as well as get the opportunity to pick up limited edition vinyl--this stuff is "tour-only", so if you're a fan, it's one of precious few chances to score it. And if not, well, it'll probably be worth something. We did a feature on the Melvins; check that out to get to know more about them! Also, remember that January is slipping by; don't let it get away without checking out the Melvins at the Satellite for their residency! They've played old stuff, newer(ish) stuff, and everything in between, so there's something for everyone!!
Saturday Night:
Moses Campbell - Ugly from Moses Campbell on Vimeo.
What: Moses Campbell + more
Where: the Smell, 247 South Main Street
When: 9 pm
Los Angeles, CA 90012
Additional Info: All ages/$5
Moses Campbell plays with a bunch of other amazing bands at the Smell downtown for the bargain price of $5. If you don't know Moses, you should--these kids play musical saws, a violin, a glockenspiel, and an accordion to accompany lyrics ranging from upbeat to melancholy. These baby-faced virtuosos will blow you away, and for five bucks!!
Sunday Night:
What: LA music video festival after party with Black Apples, Lemon Sun, and more!
Where: the Echoplex, 1154 Glendale Blvd Los Angeles CA

Black Apples? Lemon Sun? More?? Black Apples is a two-drummer powerhouse that sounds like the best of the Beach Boys and the Best of the Troggs; Lemon Sun is folky pop with a psychedelic flair, fronted by Rob Kolar (who is the "brother" half of He's My Brother, She's My Sister).
