Trish Keenan, singer for Broadcast, R.I.P.
Several news organizations are reporting that electronic UK label Warp Records has announced the death of Trish Keenan, lead singer of Broadcast.
According to Warp's announcement:
It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9am this morning in hospital. She died from complications with pneumonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care. Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time. This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly - a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in Peace.
According to Billboard,
Rumors of Keenan's illness began to surface earlier this week, after a Facebook user claiming to be the singer's sister posted on the band's Facebook page that Keenan was "fighting for her life." Warp released a statement yesterday in which manager Martin Pike confirmed the illness.
Keenan formed Broadcast in the mid-'90s, with a sound reminiscent of the French electronic group Stereolab, but with distinctly UK influences (4AD, post-goth, Delia Derbyshire, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop). By 2005 the group had shrunk to a duo and they had reappeared in 2009 with a strange, hypnotic collaboration with Focus Group called Broadcast & The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age.
