James Franco Will Be Singing at His "Secret" L.A. Bar--But Where Is It? [UPDATE: We Found It and Tell You Where It Is!]
James Franco: Secret L.A. Bar Owner, Singer (and Hunk, Graduate Student, etc.)
[UPDATE: We found it, thanks to a tweet by @Vxronica: exact location of James Franco's "secret" bar and his Oscar afterparty, below.]
The Hollywood Reporter found an intriguing item during a James Franco interview with Canada's etalk. Franco revealed that a) he's part-owner of a bar called The Writer's Room, which is in a (currently) secret location, b) he will be hosting a secret Oscar afterparty there on Feb. 27 and c) he will be singing there:
James Franco is hosting the Oscars on Feb. 27 -- and then throwing a secret afterparty.
"I'm a partner in a bar that's opening up, and the after-after-after-after-party is going to be at my new bar," he said on Canada's etalk. "It's at a secret location. And that's what I'm looking forward to because I'm going to be singing there at the bar. I'll be singing at the Oscars, but there will be a private performance at my new bar."
The best actor nominee (for 127 Hours) is only revealing a few details.
"It's called the Writer's Room," he said. "It's in L.A. That's all I can say because I can't fit everybody. Everybody at the Governors Ball will not fit into my new bar, but it'll be going down."
C'mon readers--we're sure at least a couple of you know where this Writer's Room bar is located. We're guessing Downtown.
Where is James Franco's secret bar The Writer's Room located?
So it IS actually called The Writers Room, that new bar helmed by mixologist Daniel Nelson (Doheny). Oh, and file this one under discrete back entrances. The venue slated to become The Writers Room used to be known as the 'back room' of Musso & Frank until the 1950s when it became part of the Vogue Theater (the two venues are separated by Kubar). Now that the theatre has been transformed into the supperclub, this space comes in tow. So, that means that The Writers Room is actually attached to the back of supperclub but will not be cross accessible. Meaning, patrons can not hop from supperclub to The Writers Room and vice versa. As for design, the bar will be modeled after its historical past so expect an antiquated mid-century aesthetic. Right now management plans to debut the space during Oscar week followed by a public debut several months later.
