New Free Odd Future Mix + Hilarious NPR Attempt to Get the Starbucks Crowd to Listen to OFWGKTA

A member of the Odd Future collective has just released a free mixtape through the group's website. According to the (wolf) gang's statement:

Frank Ocean Just Released His Album NOSTALGIA, Ultra. You Might Have Heard Him On The Mellowhype Album, And Will be Featured On The Upcoming GOBLIN Album. Smooth Ass Music About Bitches, Relationships And Being A Rich Young Nigga...But In A Swagged Out Way. Click Photo To Download. Wolves Know How To Sing Too.

At the same time, NPR's The Record blog (a website which recently called us out for "going low-brow" while making inappropriate sexual comments about Justin Bieber) just posted a hilarious attempt to get their Starbucks crowd to not be afraid of OFWGKTA. It's called (we shit you not) "Why You Should Listen To The Rap Group Odd Future, Even Though It's Hard."

Here's where you can download NOSTALGIA, Ultra and more on the LULZy attempt by NPR to tell their listeners to chill out and smell the Odd Future:

You can download the album here.

And here's NPR hilariously telling old white people that they should listen to Odd Future, even if Odd Future doesn't like them:

Advisory: Links and videos in this post contain language and subject matter some may find objectionable.

The last thing you'd say about the prolific young rap collective Odd Future is that they're boring. You could say a lot of things about them, but you can't say that they're just like everyone else. Over the past few months, the group has been covered in the New York Times and LA Weekly, on web sites like Pitchfork, and GrandGood, and debated by people using Twitter, formspring and tumblr.

The music makes a lot of people uncomfortable and thrills others. They're funny. They're loud. They're lewd, nihilistic and disrespectful. The group raps about rape frequently. They give all of their music away for free. They curse constantly and use every slur you can think of. The beats they make and rhyme over are painfully aggressive, chest-rattling, undeniable. It's not easy to tell when the group is being serious, and when they're mocking you. Their music is alive -- it punches you in the face. If you're over forty; have kids and are white, they don't like you.

2011 is the year of the OFWGKTA bandwagon. OFWGKTA are like the GOP of music - empty social reform coupled with non-positive, strictly idiotic and violent stances on exactly the musical and intellectual points we all need to begin to agree on and squash together as a society slowly attending its own funeral. But everyone in the blogosphere must pledge allegiance to this stuff, because if you don't, then you're part of the irrelevant non-contemporary.

and by "empty social reform" applied to OFWGKTA, I mean how they are being viewed as "progressive" and "here to inject life into "hip-hop""and, regardless of the awestrikingly negative "color" of their material (no racist), almost everything I read is in unanimous support of every aspect of these guys. Never mind that their music "sounds" sonically subpar, their group doesn't have a "positive" twist to anything they're doing and ... Let me digress for a second. A group like A Tribe Called Quest comes from healthy roots in all aspects. They are witty and tasteful. Their sound sprouted legions of imitators, each not as good as the original but still different and ultimately "positive." With OFWGKTA, they are like a rotten ugly-ass tree that is going to bear fruit that will give its young eaters colon cancer. And of course the Odd Future kids are saying, "aw yeah that's what we want! you hate us! we win! post about us on the blog! my twitter is Fuck Tyler! yeah huhuhuhuhuh!" But their fruit bears no seeds, only GMO non-organic sick fruit with a Supreme label over it, and soon the people that worship them will begin to make music that's half as shit as theirs, so look forward to promoting even worse music with less technical and intellectual virtue than throwing a rock at a wall, with even more mysogynistic and idiotic lyrics about complete filth. Then feed that to your kids...
