Guitar Hero is Dead, Long Live the Top 10 Songs to Play on Guitar Hero!

Guitar Hero is dead. Long live Guitar Hero! We got the news yesterday that Activision was moving away from developing new Guitar Hero games. Yes this means that kids will now have to actually learn to play the guitar rather than clicking some buttons, but we will miss the game anyway. We've been looking back at our many hours playing guitar hero and investigated the Guitar Hero' Forums and Facebook to present you with the top 10 songs to play on Guitar Hero:

10. Welcome to the Jungle - Guns 'n' Roses

Featured on: Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

"Welcome to the Jungle" is a fun song to play on Guitar Hero for just about everybody. That is, except Axl Rose. In 2010, Rose sued Activision fo $20 million for misuse of the Guns 'n' Roses music and likenesses. He claimed that the image of Slash's likeness would only be used on the gamebox and promotional materials, but when a digtial Slash ended up in the game he was filled with an anger that could only be soothed in a bathtub filled with $20 million one dollar bills.

9. Ace of Spades - Motorhead

Featured on: Guitar Hero

Lemmy and the gang got the digital treatment on the original Guitar Hero, bringing that galloping bassline and snarling guitar into suburban homes across America. They never had quite the same success with the Lemmy Mole add-ons that were included with the game.

8. Knights of Cydonia - Muse

Featured on: Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Muse's proggy tendencies may get on the nerves of fans of heavy rock, but there's no denying that their amped up anthems are pretty fun to play. With complex basslines and intricate guitar, Muse makes for a challenge on GH.

7. Devil Went Down To Georgia - Charlie Daniels Band

Featured on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Battles pack.

Sure this song isn't really guitar, but it still is one of the more challenging songs to attempt on Guitar Hero. Until Fiddle Hero comes out (fingers crossed for 2013!!!), shredding the plastic guitar replica will have to do.

6. Freebird - Lynard Skynard

As Featured on Guitar Hero II

Probably the most annoying thing about playing the first Guitar Hero with a group was that every time you'd ask your friends what song you should play, they'd always dickishly yell," Freebird," like that smelly drunk dude who yells out the request at a Sigur Ros show. When the song showed up on Guitar Hero II their wishes came true. Too bad the song is super hard, and typically you'd make an ass of yourself in front of them. But they're probably drunk anyway.

I enjoy watching the videos. And for me, playing the real guitar is more advantageous for my kids. It is more realistic.
