Fanatics! Henry Rollins' KCRW Show Saturday Night: Ludos, Buzzcocks, Joy Division
KCRW BROADCAST #109 for Saturday, April 9.![]()
Timothy Norris
Fanatics! If you notice, our show tonight does all it can to evade all classification. Perhaps the single song that embodies the idea behind the overall is track two, our Ludus. Check that arrangement! That's what tonight's show is all about, a frenetic bouncing.
I think tonight's show will keep you engaged and leaning into the speakers. That's the aim, anyway.
We do hit one slightly conceptual moment in our second hour, with our Cale-Eno-Bowie-Pop hunk. Also, our Manchester double shot of Buzzcocks and Joy Division. Speaking of Joy Division, one of my favorite warm weather listens is JD's 2nd album, Closer. That's a great one and sometimes overlooked. If you have not played that one in awhile, dig it out and dig it, Fanatic!
Please stay with the entirety of tonight's show, it's meant to be taken as a whole. I think we have put together a great one.
Engineer X sent me a list of all the Record Store Day releases and I was hoping to be more excited. I was hoping The Fall would have done something and that there would have been more back catalog releases of old albums. I will go through the list again and try to get interested in something on there.
I will be at Amoeba on Saturday the 16th, Ian MacKaye's birthday, by the way, doing some record playing. I am not sure what time but I will post it as soon as I do. I think it's in the afternoon.
I think the tickets for the Dinosaur Jr. shows in June have gone on sale. Those are the shows where I will be interviewing the band onstage pre-show. The massive upside for me is that I get to see Dinosaur Jr. six times in a week. That is SO working for me.
Almost all the shows on this too short a tour are done. Two more to go. I am writing you from Seattle. Our bus has broken down and so now, we hustling in airports and rental cars. This makes things sleep free and strained. It's all part of the fun you can have on the road. I am hoping that a few hours after this show airs, we will be back in the bus--just in time to be dropped off in LA.
Enough of my boring complaints. Next week, prep yo self for a live set at Amoeba and a tremendous Ian MacKaye birthday show. It's going to be awesome. Tune in and STAY FANATIC!!! --Henry
