Lil' B Confirms: "Jay Electronica and I Are Making an EP"
Murs' Paid Dues Festival Saturday in San Bernadino was
Kasey Stokes "Let's make the number of tweets up here swag on to a hundred thousand, hundred trillion!" boringly pleasantly drama-free, which made the appearance of Lil' B (whose addition to the lineup was already controversial) the most buzzed-about block of the day. Haters and master chefs alike thronged towards the stage, waiting to see what tricks the rascally rapper had up his sleeves.
Lil' B didn't disappoint, declaring, "I am the most prolific writer in hip hop," and, after dropping to his knees in the sort of extended altar call we assumed only happened during Southern Baptist revivals, thanking the gods of rap and the Internet. We think.
But while lots of folks were laughing at Lil' B (even as 9th Wonder stayed onstage during his entire set), they stopped when he casually tossed out confirmation of his EP with Jay Electronica, one of rap's most respected, albeit enigmatic, emcees, who signed with Jay Z's Roc Nation label late last year.
Lil' B had hinted at the collaboration soon after that signing, telling Vibe:
"Look out for some music from Lil' B featuring Jay Electronica and Lupe Fiasco, coming real soon. I got a text from Jay Electronica last night. Jay Electronica to me is one of the most original in the game right now."
The Based God's prophecy is coming true. Our eyes are turned to the sky.
