Charo gets 'Sexy, Sexy' at Mr. Black this Tuesday
If all the Cinco de Mayo tequila doesn't te-killya tonight (click here for some suggested fiestas), there's still mucho mas in the way of dance parties and booze-y/beat-heavy revelry to recommend this week. Indeed, tonight is just a warm-up for very spicy week ahead, one that includes a Latin music icon, an '80's flashback featuring a favorite LA DJ of yore, and house music behemoths old and new.

Friday, May 6

The UK's Funkagenda takes over the big room at Control for the first time, bringing a ferocious mix of Progressive rhythms and house soundscapes with the expected fervently funky undercurrents. Known for the revered London label, Funk Farm, Funkagenda's schema is sure to leave everyone stomped-out and satisfied. Also with Anoraak's melodic, Synthpop flaired mover melodies, and Savoy's sultry floor shudderers. At Avalon, 1735 Vine St. www.avalonhollywood.com

A more seasoned house figure (considered a legend by many), Francois K will be spinning a 4 hour set, likely to feature much from his Wave Music and Deep Space projects as well as more seminal material. His Incognito appearance is being touted as almost as retrospective ("The 35 Years of Francios K" on Facebook) so this should be quite the heavy and heady dance music history lesson. At the King King, 6555 Hollywood Blvd. www.iluvincognito.com

The current fascination with '90's music and fashion in the clubs, has seemingly put the '80's on the backburner, but there are still a lot of twenty and thirty somethings who prefer the decade when Depeche and Duran Duran reigned best. And for those retro revelers there is a new party: 1984. If you're gonna do it, do it real, and it doesn't any realer than Richard Blade, the man who helped make KROQ's the "Roq of the '80's" (after our man Rodney, of course). Blade (now on Sirius/XM) will be joined on the decks by Steven Andrew (Club Addiction), Eser (Got 80's - Rockit) and Steven Wayne (Club Violator). At the Monte Cristo, 3100 Wilshire Blvd. www.club1984.com

Saturday, May 7

Gloomier '80's and '80's-influenced sounds and atmospherics will be showcased at Unknown Pleasures, a night with Synthpop, post punk revival and electro DJs (birthday boy Robert Miranda, Jackie B, Mario Noir, Joey Radikal, and Tenderbox's Joey Medina), dancing and two Joy Division-inspired (not tribute) bands The New Division and Joy Must Remain. At Labrie's Lounge (formerly The Scene), 806 E. Colorado Blvd. Glendale.

Tuesday, May 10

Tres de Charo! Mr. Black got quite the coup, or shall we say hoochie-coochie-coup, this week: the comparable Charo will be performing and promoting her new dance single, "Sexy Sexy" there this week. The eve is virtually guaranteed to live up to the track, thanks to DJs Josh Peace and John Thomas' sounds, plus Bardot boytoy Andres Rigal's birthday bash, not to mention the always ready-to-pose posteriors of the club's bottomless waiters and dancers. At Bardot, 1737 N Vine st. Hlywd. www.mrblackla.blogspot.com
