LinA in LA: Dance Club, DJ and Party Picks For This Weekend

A steamy celebration; see Sunday pick.

June Gloom can't dampen a dynamic dance party and this week, there's a bevy of bashes that got the goods, sunshine or no. No matter what the clouds may decide, floating about the floor is easy when great DJs and well-connected, experienced promoters are involved. Indoors and outdoors, the diverse jamborees here wont be bummers -- just bumpers.

Sat., June 18

When it comes to biggie DJs who can not only command but transform a dance floor, they don't come much more versatile or powerful than Sander Kleinenberg. The multi-dimensional Dutch DJ/producer provides visuals and sounds into one unique club experience and he's sure to take control of Avalon, just as he's done in the past. 1735 Vine St., Hlywd. www.avalonhollywood.com [UPDATE NOTE: Date corrected- original post said Friday]

The Standard Downtown's roof is getting consistently busier as Summer approaches and MFG throws some of the best splashy bashes you'll find up there. MFG's Swimming With Sharks offers Saturday afternoon delights with DJs from Team IHeartComix joining Sharks' killer residents. Drink specials, "water guns, free Jello shots and half naked people." 550 S. Flower st. dwntwn. 1-7 pm. RSVP at www.swimmingwithsharks.com/la

More poolside posing and partying to take place at Fever later Sat. night. (The promoters even encourage skinny dipping... but they might be joking.) DJs Metric, Hoff and guests spin "quality jams" of the '80s, disco, rock, indie, electro, and hip(ster) hop variety. Dress (or undress) fashionably. At the Roosevelt Hotel, 7000 Hollywood Blvd. rsvp@socialitestepchild.com

Sun., June 19

More requests to "take your clothes off" at Cody Bayne's The Lot,
a (poly) sexy Silverlake romp featuring parking lot dance floor, live performances (Rudeness and Miss Honey Bee), go-go freaks, BBQ (with Miss Barbie-Q), and DJs Josh Peace, Phyliss Navidad, David Banjela, Trident, Hotne$$a, Nelstar and more. 1-8 pm. On MJs parking lot, 2810 Hyperion Ave. Invite on Facebook:

For the 6th anniversary of Malediction Society, they're doing a Steampunk Ball and few create this aesthetic and atmosphere as authentically and whimsically. The promoters proclaim the club "rekindled the Industrial Revolution" inviting patrons to "dive into the clockwork culture of retro-hightech industry" as the first steampunk dance club in LA -- maybe anywhere. They were pioneers, that's for sure. Dress to digress (in time). Goggles are recommended gear here. DJ/promoter Xian and DJ Amanda Jones spin darkwave, Industrial, EBM, synthpop, elektro, aggrotech and noize. At Monte Cristo, 3100 Wilshire Blvd. www.LADEAD.com
