Last week ended with the death of hair metal hero Jani Lane and the Go-Go's being honored with a star on the Walk of Fame. The number one L.A. female rock band of all time (according to Lina Lecaro) returned to the Greek Theatre to play their annual show on Wednesday, and Falling James proclaimed it -- and them -- to be resplendent. Motley Crue, meanwhile, might not be aging quite as gracefully, but ahead of the group's performance at Sunset Strip Music Fest this weekend Nikki Sixx offered Lecaro his best and most debauched Sunset Strip memories.

Drew Fortune had a memorable shopping trip with DJ Z-Trip in Silver Lake, though the mash-up master tended to drift away in the middle of his crate digging. Liz Ohanesian, meanwhile, was impressed by a gathering of Witch House types at the Echoplex. Andrea Domanick reported back from Outside Lands with a report on three great L.A. bands who played there and aren't named Foster The People or Best Coast.

It wasn't all love, though. Erykah Badu went off on West Coast rap legend D.O.C., saying that she may love him but she's not in love with him. Even when we tried to be nice it wasn't always taken that way; ahead of their shows at the Greek Ian Cohen made the case that Death Cab For Cutie is underrated, but some folks just couldn't get past his panning of their latest album.

Similarly, I opined that Katy Perry's busting of Michael Jackson's record may not be the end of the world, while commenters couldn't see past my call for a re-evaluation of the merits of Bad. We can all agree, perhaps, with Phillip Mlynar, that Spike Jonze has much better rap videos than "Otis."
