From Hollywood to Echo Park, retro sounds, electro grooves, reggae vibes and even a little psychedelia pepper the dance club datebook this week. Here are our picks for a roarin' and raging good time.

Fri., Aug. 5

Miami's MURK (Oscar G & Ralph Falcon) bring the hot and sexy to Departure. The set up at Vanguard -- which recalls South Beach with its outdoor lounge and copious VIP booths -- should suit their darkly rhythmic, intensely bass heavy and hypnotic sounds well. 6021 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood. Club Beat It unfortunately actually did have to beat it a few months ago when its home, The Ruby, shuttered. The electro and pop party Bang! (from the same promoters) continued on up the street at Boardner's, but apparently the club kids missed their '80's anthems. Thankfully, then, Beat It has returned as a theme room at Bang!, with guest DJs doing the retro body-rocking weekly. Tonight DJ Eser (Club Rock It! and the Breakfast Klub) spins, and the two-in-one club takes on the clamorous-sounding moniker Bang & Beat It. 1652 N. Cherokee, Hollywood. Info at www.clubbang.net

Sat., Aug. 6

Leos know how to party, especially in August; yes, this lioness speaks from personal knowledge. Festival of the Lion is one of the biggest celebrations of this sun sign's talents and eccentricities. Dance-y psych band The Orphics present this audacious, astrologically-driven party featuring DJs, performers, and a "midnight freak show." At the Whisky A-Go-Go, 8910 Sunset Blvd., W. Hollywood. www.theorphics.com

Sun., Aug. 7

Part Time Punks' Smiths/Morrissey Night is a must-go for Moz fans, so much so that the usual venue, the Echo, just hasn't been big enough. This time, promoter Michael Stock moves it to the larger Echoplex, and special guest DJ Jose Maldonado (from Sweet & Tender Hooligans) spins with Stock. Oh, and the club's now famous Morrissey life-size cardboard figure will be there for photo ops. (Wonder if the charming man cut-out will crowdsurf like the Bowie one did last month?) Every day is not like this Sunday! 1154 Glendale Blvd. Echo Park. www.parttimepunks.com

Wed., Aug. 10

Reggae queen Marcia Griffiths will make you "feel like jumping" at Dub Club on this hot hump night. The Jamaican singer (also a member of the I-Threes with Judy Mowatt and Rita Marley) gets played a lot at Dub, but she's never performed there live, until now! Expect it to be extra sweaty and spastic on the floor. DJs Roy Corduroy, Dungeonmaster, Boss Harmony and Tom Chasteen spin the best reggae, dub and dancehall in between the sets, strictly vinyl as always. 1154 Glendale Blvd. Echo Park. www.dubclubla.com
