Best Posts Of The Week

How well do you know your L.A. hip-hop dances? For the debut of her column on the subject, Jessica A. Koslow ran down the controversial origin story of the Dougie this week. Turns out a rapper named Lil Wil was doing it first, and had some choice words for our Inglewood heroes Cali Swag District.

Haven't found a Halloween costume yet? Why not go as Tyler, the Creator? Urban Outfitters, after all, sells what appears to be an outfit directly inspired by him, reports Kai Flanders. Then again, you could always just dress as a girl who looks like Skrillex, the kind Liz Ohanesian told us about in conjunction with her cover story on the EDM boy king. It's probably best to go dressed as something dark and sinister to Danzig's show at Gibson Amphitheater on Halloween, however. Just don't take your admiration of GD too far, like the deranged stalker Alex Distefano told us about, who was caught on the rocker's property with porn magazines featuring cut-outs of his head.

Earlier in the week saw the Dia de Los Muertos festival at Hollywood Forever, and Javier Cabral reviewed the performance of Astrid Hadad, who was downright Gaga-esque in her costume selection. Another of our favorite musicas Mexicanas, Ximena SariƱana, dished to Andrea Domanick about what it's like living anonymously in L.A. after being quite famous in her native country. Our fave Robyn, however, seemingly lives for nothing but the limelight, and Lina Lecaro ran down her fabulous show at the Bowl on Sunday.

After listing our top 20 greatest L.A. rap albums of all time last week, I got deep with "My Summer Vacation," a track from our #7, Ice Cube's Death Certificate. (Turns out those St. Louis dealers really did want they corners back.) Ohanesian did the same with Australian pop star Dannii Minogue, making the case for why she is, in fact, the superior Minogue. Controversial, yes, but nothing compared to Shea Serrano's assertion that Rihanna's song "We Found Love" really, really sucks.
