Monster Massive Halloween Rave 'Canceled,' Says Ticket Seller: Top DJs Armin Van Buuren, Erick Morillo Pull Out

Groove Tickets announced on its website today that the Halloween rave Monster Massive has been canceled.
The party, which had Moby, Armin Van Buuren, Erick Morillo and other superstar DJs on its lineup, apparently had trouble finding a venue. As our sister publication OC Weekly reported, there was some question about whether it would happen at Oak Canyon Park in Irvine.

... Van Buuren, one of the world's top trance spinners, and Morillo, a onetime New Yorker who is one of the folks behind the Pacha club brand, announced on their own websites that they are pulling out of the party.

For years Monster Massive had been held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, but after the controversy surrounding 2010's Electric Daisy Carnival at the L.A. Coliseum next door -- including the death of a 15-year-old attendee who had taken ecstasy -- raves have been shut out of both sister venues, which are controlled by a public body called the Coliseum Commission.
At the same time. Monster Massive faced competition this year from Hard Haunted Mansion, which now seems to be the only game in town for your electronic dance music horror fest needs.
