Uh, equating KISS with success is like equating choke'n your chicken with doing the bunny hop...no comparison. KISS is a great amalgam of hair metal & a lipstick band...some dickwad in New York declared they were hip and the myth has been perpetuated ever since like a bad rash.

Kiss (and all us old Kiss fans) don't care what people think.  That's the point of Kiss.  When people gnash their teeth in hatred of Kiss, they miss the point.  Yes, it's 4 chords and simple lyrics (not really)  Yes, it's non-political and innocent lyrics (except the sexual lyrics)  But critics have (and always have) misunderstood their "mission statement."  Let me ask you, what part of "no one wants to pay for a ticket and see some guy come out with a barstool and acoustic guitar" do you not understand?   All my life (following KISS from the beginning) I have been told how stupid Kiss is.  Stupid?  I'm not sure?  But I know they are sure the heck not boring.  And I don't go to live music to change the world.  I listen to thoughtful music in the privacy of my own home, so I can go to sleep in a comfortable enviroment.  I go to concerts to be ENTERTAINED!  And so i am a KISS fan.

The thing about us true, old school Kiss fans is we don't give a shit what any of you think about them, and they don't either.  And that's the point.  What part of "nobody wants to go to a concert and see someone walk out and pull up a stool and play an acoustic guitar" do you not understand?  I listen to everything from Alan Jackson to Warren Zevon.  I've almost fallen asleep at many of my favorite bands' concerts (go ahead and make fun of me for saying this, forgive me for working hard)  I got Kiss' "joke" a long time ago (I say "joke" but i should say "theme")  Rock and Roll all night, act like a freaking idiot, sing words to simple, hard-driving bass-heavy songs and get LAID!!!  I think it's amusing...when I was a kid, we had to hide KISS music from our aunts and preachers....now they play the Superbowl and Dick Clark's New Year!  Sellouts, sure!!  America at it's best!!!  We pay, they entertain us.

Kiss hasn't been real cool since like 2000.They have some good music but I think they have sold themselves out completely to the point there just money hungry and the music is just a cover up of the true motives of the band.I know they have good intentions with the donations and I think it's fantastic that they want to do that.

Paul is a highly underrated singer - this guy really belts it out, especially live. 

As a child of the 70,s i grew up listening to this band.I remember being 12 -13 years sneaking out and going to see the at the atlanta fulton county stadium,it was such a cool  concert to me at that age i saw them again in august of 2010 at lakewood amphitheater in atlanta. ans was so disappointed in the show if i had to see paul stanley turn around and shake his ass 1 more time i think i would have taken my belt off and spanked him , What a nerd he is thw show was awful i was so glad the tickets i got were free to me if  i had paid for that show i would have been sick. retire already your not cool anymore i swear i thought i saw a geritol stand at thw show who knows maybe it was for the geriatric performers in the band

KISS is a maddening band.  I've been following them since about 1980 or so.  A lot of the time when I step back and look at their stuff, so much of it is just so....BASIC.  There's not really a lot of style there.  But then I find myself bobbing and weaving and rocking to the next song.  Maybe that basic quality is what makes them superstars.  No f'ing around, just getting to the point RIGHT NOW.

Except for the brief period in the 80s when they capitulated to the prevailing pop culture to the point where I was afraid one of them was going to start playing a synthesizer, they've been so fantastic so much of the time that it scares me a little bit.
