Best Posts Of The Week

"It's fucking Halloween, do you know where your skull is?" Glenn Danzig asked the crowd at Gibson Amphitheater on Monday night. Actually, it was his skull that was showing up in strange places this week, as Jena Ardell imagined what scenes from famous movies would look like if Danzig's head were on the actors' bodies. The inspiration for the piece was, of course, Alex Distefano's story of the craziest Danzig stalker ever, who one Halloween crept onto GD's property with a backpack full of oddly-constructed Danzig porn.

But not all of our tales were so twisted. Rebecca Haithcoat introduced a rapper named Speak, who co-wrote Kreayshawn's hit "Gucci Gucci," but feels he hasn't been properly compensated for his efforts. Our favorite Mexican indie-pop star Ximena SariƱana, meanwhile, gave Andrea Domanick the full run-down on everything from the men in her life to why she prefers the Valley to Echo Park.

This week also saw the long-awaited release of the Beach Boys' lost classic Smile. To celebrate the occasion Sean J. O'Connell took us on a photo-heavy tour of the band's hometown, Hawthorne, California. (Check out the Pizza Show!) And, speaking of albums we're excited about, Jason Roche managed to coax an exclusive track out of Animals As Leaders, from their album out next week, Weightless. The song is called "Somnarium," and you can hear it here.

On another end of the sonic spectrum, Haithcoat invited funk superstar Dam-Funk to go crate-digging ahead of his show at the El Rey last night. In an attempt to throw him off his game, however, she brought him to Best Buy, only to witness that the man can simply find funk anywhere. He did not, however, dig up any works from the 69 Boyz or any of the other unfortunately-named acts Phillip Mlynar hilariously ran down in his post, "The Worst Rapper Names Of All Time, Besides Shorty Shitstain." Until next week!
